Laurie Hess's thoughts:

I ran the 2017 version of the Kris Kringle 5 mile race on New Year’s Eve in Leesport, PA with my husband and son. A great (but very cold) time was had by all. The race starts at noon, which is a good decision by race director Ron Horn of Pretzel City Sports. We got there a little bit early and got our bibs and hoodies. Yes, you get a hoodie at this race! Not bad for a 5 miler with a $30 registration fee! The course begins on the road. It is probably half road, half trail. There is a hill that definitely gets your attention in the first mile, then a nice downhill to the trail. This year the trail was snow covered, but it did not affect the footing too much, and it was very pretty running beside a stream. The trail was not technical at all. It was mostly flat, and very run-able. We ran for a little over 2 miles on the trail, then turned back onto the road for the end of the race. After crossing the finish line we headed back inside for the hot soup, soft pretzels, chocolate and other goodies provided by the Pagoda Pacers, a local running club that sponsors the race.
