Despite it being about 2 degrees when the race started -- in NASHVILLE -- this was a great race! It was well organized, well staffed and ran through a beautiful city. It was, overall, a great race, despite the frigid temperatures.
Parking was a breeze, which was even more helpful because we drove through the night from New Jersey to get there and my wife dropped to the 5K due to the horrid weather. The car was close, so she was able to race and get to warmth while I nearly froze mid-stride!
The corrals were well organized, with pacers in the main group of runners to help spread everyone out. The course started in the sun, but moved between buildings and then back out into the open of some much-needed extra warmth.
There were a few aid stations along the way, which were helpful ... except by the final aid station, the water in the cups had frozen!!!
At the end of the race, it was clear how much further there was to run and you could really turn on the jets, which was extremely helpful. Plus, whomever planned out the route did an awesome job, as you had a bit of a downhill before the final straightaway to the finish line. Also, props to the split finish line for 15k racers and 5k walkers.
The finish line was quick to hand out medals and the food lines were short -- and especially sweet! The snacks at the end really hit the spot, especially the hot chocolate! I wanted to pour it over my head, I was so cold!
Overall, an extremely well-run race, with great volunteers, great swag and an awesome medal.
