Robert 's thoughts:

Pre-Race -- packet pickup went smoothly at the hotel -- the view from the balcony was great -- you could see the start/finish clearly, Diamondhead, Wakiki Beach - great for pictures -- the Expo was OK but not very large
Starting line --- Walked to the start from our hotel Outrigger Reef hotel -- about 3/4-1 mile -- the start was very orderly and lots of announcements were made --- the only bad point I have -- they said there would be plenty of porta-potties --- I found 4 with a verrrry long line -- could not go before the race -- well I will go on the course -- more to that story --
Course -- started out great and flat -- then about 1 1/2 miles the climb up the hill around diamondhead -- the scenery along the hill around diamondhead was beach front with surf / lighthouse then downhill and out along a busy highway to the turn around --- now more about the bathrooms - all along the route I needed to go to the bathroom - I asked several people about porta-potties and they said there down the road -- never saw them -- the water station about 6 miles I asked and found a bathroom in a park about 100 feet back behind the water station off the road -- my wife missed it -- cant see it if you dont ask -- did not find another bathroom on the course -- there were only 3 water stations (6 if you count out and back) on the course -- they quit early so if you are slow you better have your own water -- the last few people on the course had no water and they took up the course markers -- nothing marked on the road -- my wife got lost and luckily a person at the last water station found her and brought her back on course so she could finish --- only ran an extra 1/2-3/4 of a mile ---
post race -- there was some food and drink / music in the park at the finish line -- nice awards ceremony.
this is a great race (with caveats above) if you happen to be in hawaii visiting and need a run in Hawaii for the state or just to say you have run in Hawaii
We took a cruise of the Hawaiian islands on the Pride of America (Norweigan Cruise Line) sat to sat - did packet pickup on saturday and ran on sunday am -- flew home sunday nite -- I rec you fly home monday nite

Overall we had a great trip and run -- this was state #43 on our quest to run a half marathon in all 50 states -- there are other half and marathons in Hawaii that you can do the same thing if you plan your trip --- some on sat and some on sunday -- the best would be run on sat morning and board the ship saturday afternoon.
