Jackie Dryden's thoughts:

I PR'd at this race. Did I mention I PR'D THIS race!? My PR is this race 2:02.... yea, yea, not a sub 2, but hey it's MY PR! I went to the expo and it was pretty large. I was on a time schedule so I did not get to look at everything. They did seem to have a bunch of vendors! Got some freebies and got to try out the mobile brooks bus/boat. That was kinda neat. I didn't park at the race. I had stayed with family that lives in a condo down town, so we walked the morning of the race.
They had changed the race course this year, but it was also my first year doing this race, so I knew no different. You do get to run on a couple of bridges, into Illinois and back across. One of the bridges did have the sway motion going on from the runners pounding the pavement. Let me tell you that is a very weird feeling when you go to strike and the "road" is rising to meet your foot instead. Makes you feel like you have jelly legs. Anyway, crowd support was good all along the course. Some people dress up in very funny costumes to run. Aid stations were plentiful and cheerful. You run through a variety of neighborhoods and by Anheiser Busch...need a beer? LOL At the finish the medals are pretty nice, the shirts are wicking and nice. The finish food and entertainment was really good. I had all of my pockets full while still munching on a Ted Drews frozen custard cookie sandwich. They had several photo ops at the finish with your medal, but I never saw some of them even though I logged in to view them. I would definitely recommend this race. It's not flat like some others (MO' Cowbell) but it gives you enough ups and downs that all is good in the world of the runner. If I can do it next year (2016) I will be back to see if I can beat that PR! This was my 4th half marathon and along with the Garmin Half, qualified me for Half Fanatics. I had only done 3 halves the year before. This year I did 4 in 4 states in 30 something days to moon up. And still this race was the begining of that and my "PR"!!! ;) No photos :( HF#11286
