See more of our race!

The Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon was created in 2010 by a committee of volunteers who were equally passionate about our running community, the outdoors, the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains that surround our region and of course helping others. What better way to showcase the beauty of our region than to host a marathon?

To highlight all our regions assets, the committee designed a one-of-a-kind course that summits at the top of three unique mountains, weaves through the streets of historic homes and ends in our eclectic downtown with great live music, craft beer and friends. Every time we convince someone to run our race we want them to feel like Roanoke is a second home, so our community, volunteers and staff go WAY above and beyond to ensure that the Blue Ridge will be one of the best race experiences you’ve ever had. While our course is known for its tough elevation change, it has also become widely recognized as one of the most friendly and well-run events in the country.

But don’t take our word for it! Check out all our BibRave reviews to see why people love Blue Ridge so much.

Plus unlike many large race series these days we aren’t taking home thousands of dollars each year in your hard earned cash. We donate every single penny from our race to non-profits, charities and civic organizations throughout the region. Stanley Bryant's thoughts:

Definitely meets the advertisement as "America's Toughest Road Marathon.” This was my second year participating in the Half Marathon and I will be participating in it again in 2020.

I am not going to give you false hope that this is a simple up and down course. This is a tough challenge, but it is the tough challenge that you want to have in your life as a running. If you chose this mission, you will be rewarded with beautiful views of the surrounding mountainscape.

Also, Roanoke shows up to welcome the running community to its city for the race. It is cool that there is a music festival that occurs the same time which adds to the attraction of this race. The race is well managed and spectators were everywhere (especially in Peakwood). The residents of Peakwood make you want to move to Roanoke. I love them!

One major drawback (in my opinion) was the size of the expo. It is small but that is to be expected given how the close and personal the overall race and surrounding community are. You will hardly notice the size of the expo because you will taken away by the community. T-shirts were made with some type of recycled material in 2019 but better design than 2018.
