Emily Nickles's thoughts:

I love the Flying Pig. It is my hometown race, it was my first marathon, and I enjoy running any event within the race.

This year, I ran the 10K as I was only 3 weeks out of Boston, and I knew that I was not going to be in the best condition coming in. My coach prescribed a hard effort and I executed, coming in at 14s off my PR.

This is a fantastic but difficult course with lots of climbs early (the bridges), but nice flat sections to give your legs a break. I definitely think this is a course you can run a PR on, but not for me this time.

There were plenty of port-o-pottys at the start and finish (runner priorities) with good swag and an enthusiastic crowd, especially considering it is on a separate day from the marathon. I highly recommend this as a race on its own, or consider the 3 or 4-way challenges as part of the weekend!
