Renee Barr's thoughts:

I was signed up for the half marathon but I have been dealing with plantar fasciitis so the great folks over at the marathon headquarters dropped me down to the 5K which was much appreciated!

I normally try to check out different races but this was such a great race that I know I will be back to next time hopefully take on the half like I originally planned. No wonder it was rated #5 half marathon on the BibRave 100!

Packet pick up is well organized and easy to navigate. The expo is decent sized too with some great vendors. I had a mini localized cryotherapy session done at one booth and had my heel taped at another which seemed to help a bit with my PF. The shirts ran extremely small so after the race I was able to exchange mine for a bigger size. That would probably me the only negative I would have to say.

There is no parking at Carson Park where the races start/finish but they had three parking locations to choose from. Two of which had buses continuously picking up and dropping off participants as well as spectators. The third was within walking distance of the park.

The marathon started at 7:30 but the half and the 5K did not start until 9:15 and 9:30 which for me is a bit late. but it was nice to sleep in a bit. They did announce that the races will start earlier next year and that the race will not end in Carson Park.

The 5K had a few hills but nothing too bad with the exception of the final hill which was rather large. The course was beautiful and was mixed with residential as well as blacktop trail. There were some beautiful water views as well as a lot of trees. The sun was shinning and it was warm so the shade from the trees was a much welcomed relief. There were quite a few spectators on parts of the course but on other parts, not so much. But, I have to say they were cheering just as loud for the first as they were for the last of the runners/walkers. Also at the finish line, the announcer was congratulating and high fiving everyone he could. Even when they had some issues with the mic, he still was cheering as loud as he could.

They offer free pictures to download which is awesome! I really wish more races would do this. I can't wait to check mine out!

I really like the medal too!

The finish line party is awesome! They have the usual post race fruit, chips, bagels, water and a free beer at the beer tent. But, they also have quite a few food trucks with food to purchase. I choose the donut truck. Holy sugar rush! But YUM! I highly recommend this race and you can bet I will be back!

I just want to give a huge shout out to the race crew as well as all of the volunteers. They ROCKED!
