Aubrene (Bree) F's thoughts:

The timing of the race this year was in April so if you want to continue with the St. Patrick's type activities look no further. I signed up for this race since it is a similar path to portions of the Chicago Marathon which I will be running in the fall. It is also very crowded which I felt would help me to simulate race day. This race also signals to me the start of running season in Chicago. Sign up is easy and there are multiple emails that go out ahead of race day to help with training and motivation.
The expo is at McCormick place which is easy to get to via public transit, there is also some street parking within 1/2 mile you can pay for. If you want to park onsite they do offer a parking discount to avoid the steep $20 parking fee. The expo had so many fun things to do for kids and for those running. We walked away with kids cowbells, pint glasses, running shirts, posters and lots of free sample swag. The shirt is always fun and shamrock themed. This year they included a super cute hat.

Race day was cool but quickly warmed up. There were corrals set up and many volunteers to make sure you knew where to go. Nike had fun Irish themed running signs near the start and end of the race. The race itself is flat and quick with many elite athletes out for the prize purse which draws more spectators. This is a high energy race leading you back home to the finish where a cold beer will await you should you chose to partake. The medals are great and serve also as bottle openers if you want to use it for that purpose.
Overall this is a great race and I will be doing this race again next year.
