Virtual Support
I was given the opportunity to opt into the virtual race by being a BibRave Pro. I was excited to be part of this campaign. Helping others is a passion of mine. Help those who have fallen on difficult times hits home. (I deal with this issue daily with my job).
The virtual option allows you to compete with 5 options...single sign up (5K, 10K, 15K or 30K) or a race challenge (all 4 distances). If you are running a single distance they would like you to complete your race during the week of September 18-25. If you are taking part in the challenge you may take part in the race challenge from September 1-25.
I opted in for the 4 race challenge. I was excited to represent Bibrave and help with the Back On My Feet cause. What I was not impressed by was the lack of communication on BOMF. I never received my shirt. Not so bad, I have lots of running shirts. There was other items that were missed.
Last weekend I went out for my morning run. I wanted to get in the 5K and 10K at the same time (9.3 miles). I did not pay attention to my watch and ended up with 10 miles. Later on that afternoon my wife and I walked 10 hot and hilly miles (the route is known as the Queen of Wrath...over 1000 feet of elevation. At one point you are walking half a mile up hill with a 20% grade).
Today I walked 18,6 miles (30K). This was my final event for the race challenge. I appreciate organizations like BOMF that have a virtual option. I am autoimmune compromised and I am not ready for in person races. The virtual options keep me motivated and active. Having 4 races makes you accountable. I like the fact I can pick the area, time of day, and distance I want to walk or run.
What I loved about this challenge is the fact the money raised goes back into helping people across the USA with community support, essential employment and housing resources.
