Kristin Elam's thoughts:

To begin I want to say this was my first Peachtree Road Race!

The expo is phenomenal. There were so many awesome samples and booths to prepare you for the big race.

The day of the race is kind of hectic to get into the city. I would recommend staying in a hotel in the city if possible, but for me since I live on the outskirts of the city I just used MARTA which is Atlanta's subway. However, the race organizers and the city of Atlanta were extremely prepared for the 60,000 people that would be entering the city.
When you register for the race you use a previous applicable race time to be placed in a wave. I was in L. I realized that the further back you are there are more people so it's a little harder to maneuver around slower runners.
There were plenty of water stations through the entire course, and the kind spectators often hand out water or beer to runners as they go. There are also tons of sprinklers along the road that help cool you off. The local radio stations and restaurants put up tents and pass out food to encourage runners to the finish.
When you cross the finish line you are giving some ice cold water, a cold towel, a box of goodies from whole foods, and above all else the coveted tshirt. The peachtree tshirt is a spectacle in itself. They hold a contest 6 months in advance where people can submit a design for the race. They reveal the top 5 designs and then the day of the race when you finish you get your tshirt. The winning design is kept a secret until the first person crosses the finish line.
The Atlanta track club also hosts an after party for its members which include breakfast and beer.
All in all I will definitely be doing this again. Especially next year for the 50th anniversary. So come one come all and celebrate our freedom with this amazing race and 60,000 of your closest friends.
