Lacey Timony's thoughts:

This year was the inaugural Hot Chocolate Series race in Brooklyn. This was my first time running in a Hot Chocolate series race and my first time in Brooklyn.

The race took place on Saturday April 27, 2019 in Prospect Park. The expo was held the Friday before the race. I was not a fan of a Friday expo, I had to take a day off from work to attend or pay extra to have packet mailed. I know the race directors have permits and other logistical situations to consider, however, race day pick up would be helpful.

The expo was very small, it offered a few venders such as Nuun, Honey Stinger and Hello Fresh. The expo offered helpful information for race day. At the expo, I was able to ask for directions and parking advice. This helped me tremendously on race day.

The course was a loop around Prospect Park, the 15K completed 2.5 loops and the 5K completed 1 loop. There were a decent amount of hills and the course was very scenic.

The course and start/finish line offered plenty of porta-potties. There were plenty of aid stations along the course which offered chocolate or marshmallows, Nuun and water. The after party is where we received our chocolate mug! It offered hot chocolate, chocolate dip, banana, rice crispies and pretzels. YUM

Finally, the SWAG of this race was unbelievable. The jacket is gorgeous and comfortable. The 15K finisher medal is really cute, it’s a chocolate bar with a bite mark. All finishers were emailed free finisher photos, I love my finisher photo.

Pros: Swag, Porta-potties, aid stations, chocolate after party, scenery
Cons: Friday packet pick-up
