Haley Gonzales's thoughts:

I have so many things to say about this race! Let me start off by explaining my rating:

Overall: Amazing views, extremely challenging, charming town, nice locals.

T-shirt/SWAG: Yeah, the t-shirts aren't great. And they give WAY too many pamphlets about local attractions, but is this why we run races? For swag? Not me.

Aid stations: For the 10k there was 2 of them. Which I think would be sufficient for a 10k. But not this one. Hills, on hills, on hills. I think they should have at least 3 aid stations for this race. The kids manning the station don't hand you the water. They sit there and talk as you run up and grab it yourself, then open the trash bag sitting there to throw it away. Thanks kids. To their benefit, this is a small race and I don't think they are used to competitive runners who are trying to make a good time.

Course scenery: Amador County in the Spring. No more to say.

Elevation difficulty: Holy shi**. I've run at least 4 races in San Francisco and I have NEVER had to stop to walk at any one of those. I had to walk twice at this race.

Parking: Like I said, this is a small race so that wasn't an issue. But when it gets bigger (and I hop it does) parking will be an issue. It always is when Sutter Creek has big events.

Race Management: Again, small race so they did well with what they have. If this was a bigger event I would like to see more roads closed and volunteers out there pointing out directions.

I ran this race in 2012. There was a lot of the local community there, it was great to see the support. I moved from Sutter Creek in 2010 but go back to visit friends, and run races! This year was the 2nd time I have run this race. I was extremely sad, and disappointed in the community for not showing up! There were maybe 50 people that ran this race. Maybe.

Amador County peeps...you seriously don't know what you are missing! This race is beautiful. Back roads in the country, great weather, amazing views. And hello - WINE country! What is better than running a tough race and celebrating with some wine? Amador County is well known for the great wine it has, after the race I went to some tasting rooms with my friend who ran the 5k.

Yes the elevation is insane. I think the overall winner finished the 10k in about 52 minutes. My PR is 47, I finished in about 56. But that is what is great about this race. The challenge! I will be back to this race every year. I realized I love the challenge that much. My goal next year is to not have to walk. And I'm bringing my running friends from Sac! Please join us, you will love this race!
