I have been fortunate to run this race the past 3 years. It was at one point my first half marathon back in 2012. I always seem to take this race for granted because my entry is free through work, and that is a huge perk for me. The expo seems smaller the last 2 years than it was the first year. I am usually in and out just to grab my bib/shirt. I did meet Dane Raushenberg here a few years ago and we have continued to talk since then, so that's cool. Overall the course is pretty easily with minimal hills and a couple little bridges. The better part of the course is through neighborhoods in which quite a few residents are out cheering. One of my favorite parts is the stretch of road with all the quotes on signs, they always ad a little extra to my step. I do dislike that they have a half relay because it's a real mind bend when you get that pack of fresh runners out there midway. The last few miles are really close to the beach and you can always count on a cool breeze. Always tons of spectators cheering you on as you finish and the medal is always a great design. Even though I sometimes take it for granted or look past it, I always enjoy this half.

It's sad but this is a declining race. Growing up on LBI it used to be a big event but know it doesn't even draw a 1000 runners. It's a unique distance and course, which is why I would say you have to do it at least once. Overall though nothing about it stands out, other than the facts the entry fee is only $30. I would prefer they charge a bit more and have bottled water (rather then hose) at the aid stations. They could also ad a finisher medal of some sort and have a expo, even if its small.
