The Shipyard Old Port Half Marathon is a great course. Not too much elevation and lots of great views of the surrounding waters. Packet Pick-up and parking were fairly easy and convenient if you were patient with the parking part. Day of parking was easy as a VIP. Swag was super great, extra cost if not a VIP, but some nice stuff including a bag, beer glass, tech tee with skyline at night and pier view at daytime. If you forgot anything and needed it, the expo, while small, had everything you might need.

On course, plenty of hydration stations, places to get wet towels, and medical personal if needed. The course itself was sort of like a figure 8, with both loops having their own special views and personalities including the Old Port/Western Promenade and then the Back Bay areas.

Finish line results were quick with the Race Joy app and it was easy to get around to the food tents even with up to 4000 finishers in the two events. The beer was good, 2 cans to each adult finisher. The food, while good, was limited and not as much I would have expected. The only downer in the whole day.

Overall, a very beautiful course, well run event, and ease of venue.

Simple, old school trail race. Registration online at ultrasignup.com. Morning was hosted at one of the parks in the covered shelter. Just a sticker for swag. Aid station was just a water station half way through. This is simplicity and ease in terms of putting on a race and enjoying the local forests including an old growth forest with limited access. Love it. Everything should be this easy and simple. Back to basics.

The Mendon Trail Run is an old fashioned fall trail race. It is in the Mendon Ponds Park where I have run before several times. The course takes in much of an esker trail which gives one the feeling of constant rolling hills and being up higher than you actually are. The course is around a 6 mile loop with lots of elevation change. The trees were golden as you can see in the pics on my website: http://trailrunningfaith.blogspot.com/2016/12/2016-racing-season-mendon-trail-run-20k.html

There isn't a lot of fanfare with this race, but there is a lot of community. It's put on by the local orienteering group, included lots of local runners, and had a home grown feel to it. There wasn't any swag, the cost was decent, and the day was great. Plenty of parking, a well marked course, plenty of food and drink at the aid stations, lots of volunteers, all in a gorgeous park on a beautiful fall day running through the woods.

This is one not to miss at the end of the season.

Ready Set Glow Trail Run is a locally run trail race held at sunset. It was dark when we started and the course was marked with flagging and glow sticks. Headlamps were required. Pretty cool, but also pretty tricky when you are dodging roots and running up and down switchbacks. A great time. They had sold out of shirts by the time we registered, but that's okay since part of the proceeds went to the group that helps upkeep the trails. There were plenty of snacks at the end and parking was not an issue. Full review at: http://trailrunningfaith.blogspot.com/2016/10/2016-racing-season-ready-set-glow-trail.html

Local 5K put on by the Lion's Club and part of a weekend of festivities centered at Ginegaw Park in Walworth, NY. Good t-shirts and race priced competitively to most 5Ks. Course starts off with a good solid hill up to town hall/library and then winds through town. Several spectators and loved having three aid stations for pouring water over myself as it was warm and humid. Really loved the guy with the hose! Several volunteers marked the course and it was very easy to follow. Fun, safe, and solid course.
