The Virginia Wine Country Half is one of best half marathon races on the East Coast. The setting is Virgina's beautiful and up and coming wine country. The event is well organized with a great expo the previous day at the Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg (a great place to stay if you are visiting from out of town).

The race is a combination of road surface and trails. The route is simply gorgeous and winds through vineyards, farms, and rural backroads in Loudoun County's acclaimed wine region. The local residents and farm owners are always out cheering which makes for a very fun and friendly race experience.

There's not a lot of hills on the course - but it is very humid this time of the year in Virginia, so make sure you stay hydrated!

The highlight is the post race party held at Doukenie Vineyards and includes live music, a sampling of local wines poured by several wineries, and the opportunity to meet several winemakers from the area. All the runners are also hanging out after, so it is also a great opportunity to meet fellow racers.

All in all- a beautiful, scenic, fun, and challenging race that ends with one of the best post race parties in the 13.1 circuit.

I highly recommend checking it out - it will likely become a must-do on your annual racing calendar.....it has for me!
