Marc 's thoughts:

The San Antonio Rock n' Roll Half Marathon in 2011 was my first half marathon distance race. I remember the expo being very large and well organized. I'm writing this review several years later so I don't remember everything that came with the bad. I still have the cool looking black San Antonio Rock n' Roll Marathon shirt.

We stayed in a hotel about a mile from the start and one block off from the river. We were able to walk the river most of the way the morning of the race and easily found our coral.

During the race there was plenty of music along the course and it was a great experience. I don't remember to many hilly sections with the exception of an underpass that was just before the finish where you would run down hill to go under the overpassing road and then had to run up the hill the rest of the way to the finish. Since then the course has been re-routed and no longer finishes the same way.

The after party was similar to what it is today with photos being taken with your finishers medal. Food ranging from fruit, water and juice to beer with plenty of space to relax after.

We had checked bags at this race and were able to get them dropped off in the morning without any issue at all and the pickup was well organized in an adjacent lot from where the finish is and was well organized with trucks by last name.

The half marathon is well supported with plenty of cheering and support. This changes a bit for the full marathon distance and I will cover that in a separate review. I would recommend this race to anyone looking for a fun first half marathon.
